Ad-writing tips for Pantagraph Classifieds
Know your competition. Before writing your ad, it always helps to read other similar ads currently running in the newspaper.
Be clear. Do not use abbreviations - not everyone knows what they mean.
Be specific. The more information in your ad, the faster your item will sell.
Be unique. How is your item(s) better/different than the other ads that will be running next to yours?
Use enhancements to stand out. Bold type, a border around your ad, etc. to make it easy for readers scanning the classifieds to see your ad before anyone else's.
Be sure to close the deal. Include a price and a contact number. Even including a first name of who to call can help.
Frequency helps. The more days the ad is in the newspaper, the faster the item(s) will sell and the better per line pricing you will receive.
