And now for something completely different: If you can't attend the Zoo-do but still want to help this very worthwhile cause, how about bidding on some unique artwork? Several animal artists have created unique paintings that will be up for auction at the Zoo-do. But you have the opportunity to BUY the artwork now, before it goes up to bid. All artwork is available for a pre-auction "gibbon" price of $500.*

It's unique, exotic and it helps a great cause. Check out the artwork below.

To purchase your artwork, contact Susie at (309) 434-2243 or at sohley@cityblm.org

* Buyer agrees to allow art to be on display at Zoo-Do. Art will be available for delivery on Sept 14.

Above: "Take a Step to the Left" by Miller Park Zoo's Amur Leopard, Boris
Amur leopards are the most endangered large cat in the world, with an estimated 40 currently in the wild. In order for a new Sumatran tiger exhibit to be completed, the leopard's exhibit will be moved to the left of its current location. The paw prints in this art piece were made while Boris was under anesthesia for a medical procedure. Because the animal's health is of utmost importance, Boris was not kept sedated for any additional time in order to complete this piece.

Above: "Step in the Right Direction" by Miller Park Zoo's Sumatran Tiger, Besar
A tiger uses it's large strong paws to bring down prey and mark their territory by scratching on trees. Sumatran tigers are considered highly endangered due in part to loss of habitat. The paw prints in this art piece were made while Besar was under anesthesia for a root canal procedure. Because the animal's health is of utmost importance, Besar was not kept sedated for any additional time in order to complete this piece.

Above: "Steppe Up to Help" by Miller Park Zoo's Pallas' Cat, Vorchun
This endangered species is also known as a steppe cat because their natural habitat is in the alpine desert and grassland (or steppe) in Central Asia.  Referred to by some as a small cat with a big attitude, the Pallas cat is listed as threatened in part of their range due to the fur trade and the poisoning of pikas (their delicacy of choice) for population control.
