2000: University High's pressing defense netted a surprising 60-37 girls basketball victory over previously unbeaten Pontiac. U High improved to 8-2 overall as freshman Ashlee Pistorius and senior Shelley Farnsworth each scored 17 points. Pistorius had 10 points off steals as the Pioneers forced 24 Pontiac turnovers. 1990: Senior David Taylor poured in 23 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to lead the Ridgeview High School basketball team to an 85-68 victory over Gibson City in the Sangamon Valley Conference. He scored 11 of his points in the third quarter when the Mustangs pulled away to a 70-42 advantage. 1980: All challenges at Minier Lanes in the Bloomington Bowling Association Men's Tournament fell short of overtaking Steve Coan, giving him first place with a 735 handicap score. Maynard Schleeter and Marvin Thompson also retained their doubles lead and Schleeter won all-events. 1955: Danvers High School applied a full court press in the last quarter and the defensive maneuver enabled the Dragons to defeat Beason, 56-55, in the opening round of the McLean Holiday Tournament.
