2000: Described as "small but quick," University High's unusual lineup of Dan Hubbard, Jordan Martens, John Halm, Nick Kennedy and Drew Watson took a small lead and quickly expanded it in the third quarter of U High's 69-44 victory over Pontiac. Hubbard scored 11 of his 26 points in that period.
1990: Normal Community bumped its basketball record to 8-0 with a 52-44 victory over Danville. Led by Chad Hutson's 23 points and Corey Sharp's 12 points off the bench, NCHS pulled out to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter and led 34-20 at halftime.
1980: Illinois State built a 13-point lead with 14:29 left in the second half against a victory-hungry Indiana State squad but let the Sycamores off the ropes in an 88-85 double overtime loss. Steve Reed, who led the Sycamores with 28 points, sent the game into the second overtime.
1955: Trinity High School took undisputed possession of first place in the city basketball race by beating University High, 55-47. Leland Holtz led the winners with 17 points but Steve Frost was the Irish sparkplug as usual with a fine floor game and 12 points that came in times of need.
