SAN JOSE -- Police say a Peoria County man suspected of killing his grandfather and then robbing a gas station died Saturday night in a police chase that ended with the suspect crashing near San Jose.
The police pursuit began in Pekin, when police say 28-year-old Eric Fouts of Rome robbed a gas station and fled in a stolen pick-up truck.
Fouts died at the accident scene, outside San Jose, a mile north of U.S. 136. His body remained in Logan County on Sunday.
Police said Eric Fouts was suspected of killing his grandfather, David Fouts, a day earlier.
The body of the man, believed to be in his 70s, was found about 3:30 p.m. Friday in his Chillicothe home. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll's office conducted an autopsy Saturday, and indicated the grandfather's death was a homicide.
Illinois State Police officials from districts 8 and 9 are reconstructing the accident.
