Jane Hooe

NEWMAN -- Jane Hooe, 71, of Tuscola, formerly of Newman, died at 8 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 17, 2005) at the Carle Foundatiion Hospital in Urbana.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Joines Funeral Home in Villa Grove. Burial will be at the Newman Cemetery in Newman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hooe was born Oct. 1, 1934, in West Frankfort, a daughter of John Hays and Ruth Walker Hays. She married Harold Hooe on July 26, 1952, in Champaign. He preceded her in death June 3, 1997.

Mrs. Hooe is also preceded in death by her father, John Hays.

Surviving is her mother, Ruth Parks of Tuscola; two sons, Michael (Carla) Hooe of Iuka and David (Lisa) Hooe of Edgewater, Md.; a daughter, Carol (Jess) Hughes of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Benjamin and Holly Hooe of Iuka, Lindsay and Courtney Hooe of Bloomington, and John Thomas and Jesse Hughes of Bloomington. Also surviving is a sister, Areta Joines of Newman.

Mrs. Hooe was a graduate of Newman High School. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Newman, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was a former owner and operator of the Style Shop in Newman for 16 years. She was also a member of the Stephen A. Douglas DAR Chapter, and the Illinois State Regent for DAR from 2003 to 2005.

She was formerly employed at Newman High School and Longview Capitol Corp. She served both places as secretary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newman First Christian Church or the George Rogers Clark Memorial Fund at Fort Massac State Park, care of Joines-Appleby Funeral Home, PO Box 350 Newman, IL 61942.
