2000: Calvary Baptist held New Wine-Lincoln scoreless in the first quarter and was never threatened in a 64-34 boys basketball victory. James Campbell scored 15 points for the Crusaders (6-3) while Evan Fleming added 13 and Tyler Wrezinski had 10 points and 15 rebounds.

1990: Rob Zanoni, a senior guard, scored 21 points and Todd Kurz, a junior forward, added 19 as Central Catholic got its first basketball win with a 67-53 triumph over Ridgeview. The Saints took charge early with an 11-2 spurt, fueled by six points from Kurz and five more from Zanoni.

1980: Bloomington High School topped Normal Community, 50-33, and University High, 59-20, to win its second consecutive Intercity Boys Swimming Meet title. Double winners were John Pratt and Mike McCarthy of Bloomington and Paul Smith of NCHS.

1955: Are football and basketball "better" now because of the balls? One-piece basketballs were unheard of 30 years ago and the sewn ball generally bulged at the seams as it got older. Today's football isn't as "fat" as it was 30 years ago, not by an inch and a quarter or more, hence being easier to throw.
