IN COURT Convicted killer pullsmotion for new trial OTTAWA -- A Streator man convicted of killing a Streator youth has withdrawn his motion for a new trial after a key witness to that motion was killed in a car accident. Dion Jenkins, 26, pleaded guilty seven years ago to stabbing Justin McMillan, 17, during a fight. He based his motion for a change of plea because he said his lawyer, James Reilly of Arlington Heights, took advantage of Jenkins' illiteracy to coax the guilty plea. The motion was to be heard next month in front of LaSalle County Judge Cynthia Racuglia. Reilly was to take the stand as a key witness, but it was withdrawn after the accident earlier this year. Jenkins will continue to serve his 25 years in prison. He is scheduled to be up for parole in 2023.
