Crossing gets town backing
CHATSWORTH - Developers of the Oliver's Crossing subdivision have received a vote of confidence from the town of Chatsworth. The board voted 6-0 this week to take the first step in approving plans for a proposed subdivision two miles south of U.S. 24 and three-quarters of a mile west of town. "This is a great thing for the city," said town President Richard Pearson. "Like every community our size, we need to foster growth. This subdivision will help fund the town, the school (Prairie Central school district) and other taxing districts." The 80-home subdivision is expected to have homes valued from $300,000 to $400,000. The city, legal bodies and Kurtenbach Development LLC next will need to work out an annexation agreement. The city also will investigate creating a tax increment financing district, which uses property tax money from improvements in the district to pay for development incentives. Conceived more than 10 years ago by local farmer Ken Kurtenbach, the subdivision is named after Franklin Oliver, the first settler in the area and Kurtenbach's great-great-great-grandfather. In addition to upscale housing, the subdivision will include a lake, and a golf course may be added in the future. The council could vote on approving the subdivision by April.
