PONTIAC -- Two teens received minor injuries after being shot at by five other teens armed with BB guns.

The Pontiac Police Department arrested the five teens – a 16-year-old from Bloomington, two 14-year-olds from Pontiac, and two 13 year olds from Pontiac — following the incident around 3 p.m. on Sunday in Fell Park.

Pontiac Police Department Maj. Jim Woolford said the group of teens approached the victims and asked if they wanted to fight.

When the victims said no, the group fired on them.

Woolford said the victims, who are both 13 years old, had injuries to their stomach, arm and legs.

Police were able to recover three of the BB guns used in the incident.

The teens are facing charges of aggravated battery and obstruction of justice. All were released to custody of their parents.

Woolford said it is unclear why the children were in the park, which is also the location of the city’s skate park which opened earlier this month.

" The skate park is the only thing the town has really done for the kids of Pontiac in a long time. Anytime you open something like that, there will be kids that misuse the park...it would happen anywhere. However, the majority of the kids will use the park as intended. Unfortunate what happened, but maybe the parents shouldn't let thier kids leave the house with BB guns....it doesn't matter if they were at the skate park....or the grocery store parking lot, it would have happened either way. " Pretty much every young male gets in trouble with a BB gun at some point growing up. I think it is a neccesary part of the maturing process. "

" I think these kids do have an "aim", it is to skate and not get in trouble for skating on the streets or sidewalks. Why can't people just be happy that the kids now have a place to skate? I think skateboarding has proven itself to be a popular pastime of kids today, so let them enjoy it! As far as no supervision....the park is located in a very traveled area by the PPD and citizens. It is a small enough community that people do look out for one another. I have witnessed several parents watching their children skate, so I do not believe that is a totally unsupervised situation. There is no use in complaining about how much was spent on the park, what should have been built other than the skate park, etc....I believe it is there to stay, so get used to it. PS...the entire bb gun incident could have happened anywhere... "

" No, the bb guns didn't have anything to do with the skate park. These kids just have way too much time on their hands. And whenever you get that many aimless kids together with no adult supervision, your asking for trouble. "

" Lots of kids skate. They'll skate somewhere, so why not in a park where it's out of the way. I'm sure plenty of people think tennis courts and swimming pools are stupid too. I don't think you can say that the BB guns had anything to do with the skate park. "

" Great park....I think Pontiac would have benefitted from a public outside pool, not a stupid skateboard park where kids now get shot by bb guns... "
