ISU still ranked No. 3

NORMAL - Monday's Sports Network Division I-AA national football rankings assure there will be a second matchup of top 10 teams in three weeks Saturday at Hancock Stadium.

Illinois State remained at No. 3 and will meet No. 10 Youngstown State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in a Gateway Conference game. The Redbirds were fifth-ranked after an Oct. 14 victory over then-No. 7 Southern Illinois.

Appalachian State (7-1) continues to lead the Sports Network rankings with 82 first-place votes and 2,750 poll points. Montana (6-1) is second with four votes for first and 2,437 points.

ISU (6-1) has 12 first-place votes and 2,388 points as the top three spots remained the same from last week.

Massachusetts (6-1) moved from sixth to fourth and James Madison (6-1) jumped from eighth to fifth.

Northern Iowa (5-2) rose from 14th to seventh by beating Youngstown State (6-2). That loss dropped the Penguins from fifth to 10th. The Gateway has a fourth team in the top 20 in Southern Illinois at No. 19. Eastern Illinois is 14th.

ISU did take over second in the College Sporting News Coaches Poll. Appalachian State is first, Montana third, Northern Iowa seventh and Youngstown State 10th in that poll.
