Girls high school volleyball regionals
First-round round ups of the girls high school volleyball regional tournament. The No. 10-seeded Dwight High School volleyball team improved its record to 16-13-2 by defeating Iroquois West, 25-7, 25-13, in first-round Class A Regional action at Braidwood Monday night. Junior Stephanie Humbert led the Trojans with 14 service points and seven digs. Michael-Ann Kelly and Kelsey O’Donnel added five service points each. Carly Perschnick provided strong net play for Dwight with 11 kills and Kelly added seven to go with four digs. Katy Feddersen had 11 assists Perschnick four digs. Senior Kattie Albrecht had five kills and five digs for Iroquois West (4-26). Dwight plays No. 6-seeded Peotone at 7:30 tonight. Tremont eliminated: No. 18-seeded Reed-Custer, the host school, posted a 26-24, 23-25, 25-18 victory over No. 15 Tri-Point (11-18). Reed-Custer meets No. 3 CPCI (23-10) in tonight’s 6:30 semifinal. At MinonkEureka slips past Fieldcrest: Carly Johnson had a game-high 12 kills and two blocks to help 12th-seeded Eureka outlast No. 14 seed Fieldcrest, 25-16, 18-25, 25-16, in the first round of the Fieldcrest Regional. Eureka junior setter Casie Wherley posted 15 assists while Laura Wirtz chipped in 10 assists and a team-high seven service points. Jenna Schroeder paced the Hornet defense with 14 digs and Sarah Moyer had 13. Setter Kayla Conroy paced the Knights (8-21) with 15 assists. Sarah Stremlau led Fieldcrest with six kills and eight service points, while senior Cynthia Jensen chipped in eight digs. The Hornets (13-21) face second-seeded Flanagan (27-7) at 6:30 tonight in a semifinal. At TremontEl Paso-Gridley defeats Heyworth: Mattie Fairchild paced El Paso-Gridley with 13 service points and 17 assists as the Titans beat Heyworth, 25-11, 25-17, in the first round of the Tremont Regional. Janelle James added a team-high eight kills for El Paso-Gridley, the No. 10 seed. Brittany Kiefer led the Titan defense with 11 digs and Tyler Neal chipped in four blocks. Audie Springer had 12 assists while Brittany Feger tallied five kills for No. 13 seed Heyworth (10-20). The Titans (18-10) face Clinton in a regional semifinal at 7:30 tonight. Lexington overcomes Tremont: Jessica Kraft recorded a team-high 15 service points to lead Lexington past Tremont, 25-10, 25-17. Lexington’s Maggie Johansen posted a match-high eight kills and added two blocks. Megan Sleep registered 13 assists, while Jenna Bean tallied nine digs for the 11th-seeded Minutemen (21-11). Tremont (14-16) was led by Janelle Barrow’s nine assists. Kaylie Endress chipped in four kills and Lyndsie Watson had seven digs for the 12th-seeded Turks. Lexington plays Deer Creek-Mackinaw at 6:30 tonight in a semifinal. At FisherGCMS drops Fisher: The host Bunnies, seeded No. 21, saw their season come to an end, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20, at the hands of No. 20 Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (8-21). Fisher fell to 3-26. Kaitlyn Fisher registered seven kills for GCMS while Mel McDevitt had 31 digs and Carley Kemmer 10 assists. Fisher received 21 assists from Jordan Halls, 15 digs from Maria Thomas, seven kills from Brook Clemons, four blocks from Tiffany Wallick and six kills from Caitlyn Arnold. The Falcons meet No. 4 Tolono Unity in a 6:30 semifinal tonight. Prairie Central moves on: No. 23-seeded Prairie Central (5-26-3) upset No. 16 Urbana Uni High, 25-15, 25-16, to advance to tonight’s 7:30 semifinal against No. 5 Olympia (18-11). At Farmer CityBlue Ridge trips Judah Christian: Devin Houser had 24 service points and 10 aces to lead No. 9-seeded Blue Ridge to victory over No. 22 Champaign Judah Christian, 25-16 and 25-3. Jamie Hendricks led Blue Ridge (21-10) in kills with 10 while Sarah Lytel had 12 assists. Blue Ridge plays No. 7 Champaign St. Thomas More in a 7:30 regional semifinal tonight. Tonight’s 6:30 semifinal pits No. 2 Hartsburg-Emden against DeLand-Weldon, which was a 15-25, 26-24, 25-23 winner over Argenta-Oreana Monday. At BloomingtonRidgeview edges LeRoy: Seniors Heather Zimmerman, Darby Gleeson, and Kellie Graham helped extend No. 15-seeded Ridgeview’s season with a 25-8, 25-27, 25-17 victory over No. 18 LeRoy in the Central Catholic Regional. Zimmerman collected 22 assists and eight service points for the Mustangs (12-17). Gleeson added seven digs while Graham had 10 service points and five kills. Juniors Lindsey Johnson chipped in six kills while Taylor Zimmerman had 11 service points. LeRoy’s Jill Morgan notched 11 service points, seven aces, five kills and seven digs. Kristie Clawson had 10 assists for LeRoy (9-23). Ridgeview meet No. 3 Maroa-Forsyth in a semifinal at 6:30 tonight. Tri-Valley eliminates Cornerstone: No. 14-seeded Tri-Valley improved to 15-13 with a 25-16, 25-11 victory over No. 24 Cornerstone. The Vikings face No. 6 Central Catholic in a semifinal at 7:30 tonight. At Mount SterlingIllini Central downs Brown County: No. 9-seeded Illini Central (18-16) downed No. 18 Brown County, 25-20, 25-18, to advance to tonight’s 7:30 regional semifinals against No. 8 Riverton. Annie Cave paced the Cougars with nine kills and three blocks. Brooke Williams provided 11 assists while Jessie Blane had three aces among her nine services points. Leah Kassing had five kills and four blocks for Brown County (5-20). In other action, No. 13 Beardstown (16-16) eliminated Greenview, 25-17, 25-7. Beardstown faces Camp Point Central at 6:30 tonight. At FarmingtonDelavan bows out: No. 21-seeded Delavan saw its season end at 3-22 after suffering an 18-25, 25-21, 25-23 loss to host Farmington, the No. 22 seed.
