TUSCOLA -- The season came to an end for the No. 16 seed Fisher High School football team in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs on Friday night as the Bunnies were handed a 23-6 loss by No. 1 seed Tuscola.

Senior Josh Ingold ran for 45 yards and Colten Unzicker added 38 yards to lead Fisher as Tuscola’s defense held the Bunnies to 176 total yards for the game.

“We had a great game plan,” said Fisher coach Matt Leng. “We knew how we wanted to attack them offensively. We just could not make the big play when we had to make the big play. That had been a problem for us all year.”

Tuscola scored in the first quarter on a 52-yard pass from John Wienke to Matt Bailey to make the score 6-0. Then Wienke threw a 21-yard pass to Nick Hanke to make the score 13-0 at halftime.

Fisher’s defense held in the third quarter, giving up a just 35-yard field goal to make the score 16-0 to begin the fourth quarter.

Tuscola’s final score came on a 2-yard run by Austin Schultz.

Fisher’s lone score came with 1:13 left in the game when Unzicker ran the ball in from 7 yards out.

Zach Davis and Billy Derges had seven tackles each, Kody Thomas had six tackles and Ingold had five tackles, including one for a loss for Fisher, which ended the season at 5-5.

Mitch Elkins had three catches for 60 yards.

Fisher held Tuscola (10-0) to just 89 yards on the ground.

The Bunnies had the ball for 27 minutes, 5 seconds, compared to just 20:55 for Tuscola.

“Our kids played with incredible intensity and we just never quit,” Leng said. “We fought very hard for four quarters. We had a good season. We had some ups and downs.

“I think there were some tough expectations put on these kids going into a new conference and these kids responded pretty well. I think our future is real bright. We’re gonna have to work real hard to keep this level of success going.”
