Restrooms available soon near Amtrak

PONTIAC -- Skateboarders and people waiting for the Amtrak train soon will have restrooms available to them at Fell Park

The Pontiac City Council accepted $31,000 in construction bids at its meeting Monday. Work could begin on the project in mid-May.

Plans to install restrooms at Fell started last year primarily for those waiting for the Amtrak. The depot is a privately owned building and does not have public restrooms. Since then, the city has installed a skate park for skateboard enthusiasts.

Mansion training starts for helpers

BLOOMINGTON — David Davis Mansion will begin training for new volunteers at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the David Davis Mansion.

Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of four hours per month but are encouraged to work as often as they can. Mansion volunteers provide house tours and help with the gift shop, school programs, office mailings, the site newsletter, the visitor center, special events, Christmas decorating, and the site’s heirloom garden.

Flanagan youngsters exceed goal for AHA

FLANAGAN — Flanagan Grade School raised $3,520.55 for the American Heart Association, topping its goal of $3,000 from its Hoops and Jumps for Heart event.

With the goal reached, event chairwoman Amanda Gordon agreed to kiss a pig.

Arts Center donates to Hammitt School

BLOOMINGTON — McLean County Arts Center has awarded $400 to The Baby Fold’s Hammitt School to upgrade and expand the use of art as a therapeutic intervention tool.

The Baby Fold is a non-profit child and family service organization that serves more than 1,000 children and families every year. The organization offers professional services in the areas of adoption, foster care, pregnancy counseling, specialized education, residential treatment, family support and counseling, and professional training and consultation.
