BLOOMINGTON - Dr. John E. Randolph of 3 Canterbury Court, Bloomington, died at 2:22 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 2007) at home with his family, nearly five years after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Towanda Ave., Normal, with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Burial will be private and will take place at Randolph Cemetery in Kenney. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Calvary United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, the Lincoln College Building Fund, the Community Cancer Center in Normal or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Randolph was born June 30, 1939, in Lincoln, a son of Harry and Mildred Smith Randolph, who are deceased. He graduated from Beason High School and the University of Illinois, where he received a bachelor of science degree in 1961. He was a proud member of the Marching Illini. He married Margaret Irwin of Beason on June 30, 1963, in Beason. She survives.

Dr. Randolph received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 1965 and completed an internship at Cook County Hospital.–;He served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force for two years, and subsequently completed a residency in ophthalmology at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. He moved to Bloomington with his family in 1971 and practiced at the Gailey Eye Clinic in Bloomington for 33 years.

Family was most important to Dr. Randolph. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Julie Knipstein, LaGrange Park, and Dr. Laura Randolph, Bloomington; sons-in-law, Steve Knipstein and Dr. Jerry Oakey; brothers, Robert Randolph, Chillicothe, and David Randolph, Magee, Miss.; grandchildren, Maxwell John and Zoey Ellen Knipstein and Aidan Marguerite and John Randolph Oakey; and numerous other in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended relatives throughout central Illinois.

During his lifetime, Dr. Randolph was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the Lincoln College Board of Trustees, the Masonic Lodge No. 820 in Kenney and the Royal Order of Jesters. He loved photography, collecting antique clocks, playing his trumpet in the brass quartet at church and spending time on the family farm. He and Margaret also relished traveling and getting together with family and friends.
