5 years ago (2002): Illinois State basketball forward Boo Bojang, the Redbirds’ reigning most valuable player, had the cast and four pins removed from his surgically repaired right wrist. Bojang should be able to practice at full strength in eight weeks.
15 years ago (1992): The Twin Cities may soon be known as the “Mother of National Bass Tournaments.” Mike Whitaker, formerly of the Bloomington-Normal Bass Club, started the Kentucky-based Red Man Tournament Trail. Now Steve Craig and Tom Woodridge of Bloomington have founded the new Keystone Beer Katch-a-Keeper Pro-Am Bass Tournament Trail.
25 years ago (1982): The Bloomington doubles team of Mitchell Turnbull and Barry Brandt won the 14-year-old age division title at the Livingston Area Tennis Club McDonald’s Open in Pontiac. They defeated Boyd Bach and Nick Zanoni, also of Bloomington, by scores of 3-6, 7-6 and 7-6.
50 years ago (1957): Bloomington Country Club golfer Morgan Evans fired a one-over-par 73 on the Savoy Golf Course to lead a contingent of Bloomington entries in the first qualifying round of the 27th annual Illinois Amateur Golf Championship.
