Promises not kept from last illegal alien amnesty
In 1965, President Johnson signed Sen. Edward Kennedy's Immigration and Nationality Act, overturning our standing policy of national origin quotas and leading to chain immigration. In 1986, President Reagan approved Kennedy's bill granting amnesty to 3 million aliens, resulting in more chain immigration. Reagan promised employer sanctions that would remove the incentives for illegal immigration by eliminating job opportunities. Kennedy promised the borders would be secured, and, ``...we will never bring forth another amnesty like this.'' That amnesty, 21 years of unsecured borders, failure to enforce immigration laws, greedy corporations and businesses desiring cheap labor led to the present crisis. In 2007, Kennedy again proposed amnesty for at least 12 million aliens. Recently, 49 senators, mostly Democrat, voted to give illegal aliens Social Security benefits. Rather than protecting and investing Social Security contributions over the past 39 years, Congress has raided the fund for $1.96 trillion - $1.14 trillion of that was spent in the last seven years. They say Social Security is going broke, yet 49 senators would give benefits to aliens for their illegal work. The Heritage Foundation estimates it would cost $2.6 trillion to cover retirement benefits for 12 million aliens if the 2007 amnesty had passed. Some aliens with fake or stolen Social Security numbers pay into Social Security but aren't eligible for benefits. Those payments, amounting to $6 billion a year, go into the Earnings Suspense File with a current total of $519 billion. Business turns a blind eye to the false Social Security numbers to obtain cheap labor. Taxpayers know there is no cheap labor. Illegal workers qualify for subsidized rent, food stamps, free health care, legal fees, etc. Let's hold accountable politicians whose concern for the welfare of illegal aliens blinds them to past mistakes - and the welfare of present and future American society.
