Schrader to drive area team’s car at Springfield
By Pantagraph staff
Ken Schrader, a regular driver in the Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck series, will take over in the cockpit of a racecar owned by Hendren Motorsports of Gridley for the Aug. 19 ARCA/REMAX Allen Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
Hendren co-owner Brian Smith said Schrader will substitute for regular driver Bob Strait, who was injured in a motorcycle accident June 1.
Schrader is well known for racing in just about any racing circuit across the country.
“He’s just a racing maniac,” Smith said.
Schrader, who is 16th in the Craftsman Trucks drivers’ standings, has 14 career wins in the ARCA circuit, including taking the checkered flags in Springfield in 1998.
