Former ISU 3B Anetsberger makes minor-league all-star team
Ryan Anetsberger has already visited New York City and played a game in Brooklyn before 8,000 spectators.
Yet Anetsberger’s professional baseball debut with the Jamestown Jammers got even better this week when he was selected to the National League team for the New York-Pennsylvania League All-Star Game.
“I just found out. I’m pretty excited,” said the former Illinois State standout who was a 15th round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in June. “We’ve got three games in Staten Island, then they’re going to drop us off in Hudson Valley where the game’s at.”
A third baseman, Anetsberger is batting .279 with six home runs and 20 RBI to earn a spot in the all-star game Aug. 14 in Fishkill, N.Y.
“It’s been pretty fun. We’re not doing too good (17-32 record), but we’ve got a good group of guys,” Anetsberger said. “It’s been pretty similar to college baseball.”
In 147 at-bats with Jamestown, Anetsberger has surpassed his home run total with ISU in the spring (five) in 39 fewer at-bats.
Jamestown has a policy not to alter the batting styles of newcomers for the first two months.
“They leave new guys alone,” said Anetsberger. “They give you little tips here and there on fundamental stuff, but mostly they just let you play.”
Jamestown’s recent game with Brooklyn drew a crowd of 8,000 on a day the New York Mets were idle and was televised. Anetsberger’s parents were able to watch the game on satellite.
