5 years ago (2002): Jeff and Brandon Holtz held off a challenge by Bill and Matt Miller to win the Bloomington-Normal Parent-Child Golf Tournament’s over-13 division championship at Highland Park Golf Course. The Holtzes added a 72 to their opening-day 69 for a 139 total and a four-stroke victory.
15 years ago (1992): Chip Mosely, a Bloomington High School graduate, walked on to a football conditioning program while taking two summer courses at the University of Minnesota and the 6-foot-1, 180-pound free safety/receiver ended up being awarded a full scholarship to the Big Ten Conference school.
25 years ago (1982): First-round co-leader Mike Milligan of Bloomington shot a 76 to fall three shots behind the leaders at the halfway point of 72-hole Illinois State Men’s Amateur golf tournament at the Country Club of Peoria. His 36-hole score of 146 is two over par.
50 years ago (1957): Closing with a three-under-par 33 on the front nine at Bloomington Country Club, Morgan Evans won the Men’s City golf crown by defeating Gordon Shepherd, 10 and 9 in 27 holes. Illinois State tennis coach Gene Hill beat Frank Rorabach, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, for the Twin City Tennis Tournament senior men’s title.
