PAXTON -- Three people were hospitalized after a head-on collision early Sunday that police say involved alcohol.

Illinois State Police said Michael Orr, 48, of Morris, was driving west on Route 9 at Ford County Road 2400 East when he crossed the center lane and hit an eastbound car driven by Richard Gonzalez, 25, of Hoopeston about 1 a.m.

Orr, Gonzalez and passenger Trinidad Hernandez, 34, also of Hoopeston, all were taken to Gibson Area Hospital.

Police later charged Orr and Gonzalez with driving under the influence.

Assisting at the scene were Paxton police, Paxton firefighters, Paxton emergency response service and Gibson Area emergency medical service.

" Do you want a blue ribbon? Drinking while driving should have never happened once. It's common sense! And there are NO excuses. And to me, there is no such thing as an "ignorant" opinion. Look opinion up in the dictionary to find out what it means. We ALL have them. We all listen to them. And lots of us comment on them. But to place an adjective before the word "opinion" is not right! And that usually happens when the person doesn't believe their OWN opinion or is feeling guilty for something. "

" Mmmm....Tobacco, tobacco taste GREAT. I love the fact that NON-smokers will tell me how it tastes? I know ALOT of foods that stink (collared greens) but are DELICIOUS. Smoking is the same way. Don't knock it until you try it. You want a smoke? "

" That is the most ignorant opinion I've EVER heard (and I've heard alot from the smoking ban proponents). "Take their license for good as they will never learn?!" I received a DUI over 2 years ago and have NEVER driven even the slightest bit intoxicated since. I'm sorry you've never made a mistake. Or is that mistake you've never been caught doing? "

" I think I saw a story that the Japanese already have a system that not only checks breath, but eye and hand indicators. So, it may not be as improbable as you think it is. 10, 15 years, it may be as common as seatbelts. Be a strange world though.....everyone will probably get drunker knowing they can't get into a car. Pretty much like a Sat. night in Tokyo. "

" How about installing BAID devices in all cars and reducing drunk driving to an uncommon occurence? Wait that'd be inconvenient so it's out in this everyone-else-accomodate-me society. "

" Speaking of smoking...Yeah, I don't blame you. I like to smell nice, but those who smoke have no respect. It stinks, the person smells, there is no way out of it. It is disgusting! And they say it tastes good? "

" I don't care if someone has only had 1/2 can of beer. You do not drive, common sense, but those who love drinking do not have any common sense. Those who have never gotten caught, are just plain lucky. But those who do, take their license for good!!! Because they will NEVER change. "

" I hope when you go to church you take communion and get picked up on the way home. You might want to smoke a stoggy on the drive home to cover up the wine stench. Oh let's see, if everyone quit smoking while driving, it might cost the state countless amounts of cigarette tax dollars, since they are planning on raising the per pack tax amount to $1.88 instead of the present $.98. This tax increase could pay for your (I have no vices) rehab, since it sounds like you are on way to many doctor recommended medications. Drive on! If you do not have all of the details, don't condemn everyone in your (I am perfect) path! "

" Remember, once upon a time our sitting president was charged w/DWI. I say burn their buttons. I think their should be a law concerning smoking and driving, for this too is hazardous behavior. If you drink and drive, then pay the price suckers. Now I have to prepare for church. "

" I drink now and again. I am not going to condemn those that do or those that don't. But if I had a beer or two after work on an empty stomach and got caught speeding. I am sure I would be classified as a drunk driver. However, should I go to jail? Should I get my license suspended?THe worst part is that I am Everyday Blue Collar Joe so yes, that would happen, even though, (for the most part) I am an upstanding citizen. "

" I presume the .8 limit was not chosen at random, that tests indicate a driver's performance begins to be affected at that level. Whatever it takes to reach this blood level it's TOO HIGH. Fine 'em, suspend their licenses. No jail except in the most serious injury cases but send them to rehab. "

One Time Offenders wrote on Aug 13, 2007 3:53 PM:

Understand your point wrote on Aug 13, 2007 3:51 PM:

" However just because both drivers were charged with driving under the influence, you don't know what that means. .08 is like a half a beer or a beer. Gonzalez could have had 2 beers and been charged. They need to reconsider the whole .08 thing. "

Pretty bad... wrote on Aug 13, 2007 3:29 PM:

" Things are getting pretty bad when it's not even safe for drunk drivers to be on the road- safe from other drunk drivers, that is. Incidents such as this should require at least a month in rehab, even for the first offense. "
