Aug. 14 IN COURTTwo men charged with robbing store DWIGHT — A store worker’s hands and feet were bound before an armed robber took money Sunday from Casey’s General Store, 311 N. Union St., authorities said. George Robinson Jr., 47, of Kankakee, and Robin Jones, 35, of Bourbonnais, were arrested after they were stopped along Interstate 55. Police Chief Tim Henson said police found money, an air gun and drug paraphernalia in the car. Henson said Robinson entered the store and displayed a gun, later discovered to be an air gun, and demanded money. He left in a car driven by Jones, Henson said. Earlier, an employee had his hands bound with tape and his feet bound with shoelaces outside the store, said First Assistant State’s Attorney Carey Luckman in court Monday. The charge is a Class 1 felony. Jones remains in the Livingston County Jail in lieu of posting $20,000 bond, and Robinson remains in the jail in lieu of posting $100,000 bond. Both have prior convictions for armed robbery, authorities said. Battery indictment — A rural Streator man has been indicted on felony domestic battery charges after authorities said he struck a male family member with a hammer. David Werner, 23, is free on $10,000 bond, 10 percent of which had to be posted. Werner and the victim required hospitalization after the July 22 fight. Lying to authorities — Two Streator teenagers have been sentenced to felony probation after pleading guilty to lying to authorities about who was driving their car involved in a fatal accident. Gavin Castillo and Johnathan Doehler, both 18, entered the negotiated plea of obstruction of justice before separate judges. Each was sentenced to 2½ years of conditional discharge. Authorities said the two said Doehler was the driver in an April 29 Livingston County accident on a rural road. David Robinson, 18, of Streator later died in St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator. Castillo was the driver, something which two other occupants eventually admitted. A wrongful death suit filed by Robinson’s estate against the pair is pending. POLICE, FIRE, RESCUEPills, syrup taken from Pontiac store PONTIAC — More than 1,000 pills to fight pain and depression were stolen Saturday night from Sartoris Super Drugs, 1034 W. Reynolds St. Police found signs of forced entry. Administrative Commander Tom Woolford said an inventory check revealed the store was missing 962 pills of the narcotic pain reliever called Vicodin, 128 pills of Clonzepam and two bottles of Vicodin syrup. The case is still under investigation, Woolford said. Burglary is a Class 2 felony that carries a prison term of from three to seven years. |
