Logan County judge to step down
LINCOLN — Logan County Circuit Judge David L. Coogan will retire in November 2008, ending a 22-year tenure on the 11th Judicial Circuit bench.
Coogan was appointed associate judge in March 1985 and elected circuit judge in November 1998. He replaced retiring Judge Gerald Dehner.
In his letter of resignation to Chief Circuit Judge Elizabeth Robb, Coogan said “my time on the bench has been very personally and professionally fulfilling and I wish to express my appreciation to my family, staff, fellow judges, attorneys, officeholders and the citizens that have assisted and encouraged me on this journey.”
Coogan worked in private practice and served as an assistant state’s attorney in Logan County before moving to the judicial position.
The Lincoln native said his planned retirement will allow formal notice of a vacancy and time for potential candidates for the judgeship to circulate petitions for the February 2008 primary. Coogan’s position will be filled in the November 2008 general election.
