EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Evansville BlueCats of the United Indoor Football league shut it doors Friday and now are for sale. Team ownership informed staff Wednesday that the minor-league indoor football team would cease operations after five seasons of not making a profit.

"Emotionally, we just don't have the fight in it anymore," Evansville team president John Voliva told the Evansville (Ind.) Courier Press.

The newspaper speculated that if the organization is not sold by late September, it likely would not field a team in Evansville or elsewhere for the 2008 season.

Attendance for the BlueCats' games ranged between 2,100 and 2,500 fans per game.

Three BlueCats have been named to the UIF All-Star game to be played Saturday in Bloomington.

" Just another indication of the difficulty small town professional hockey and football teams have making a go of it. The small number of teams in each league, the relatively unknown players, competing with local college basketball and football schedules. Whenever a franchise like this fails I say it's bad news for all of them. "

" If they didn't have a stupid nickname and god-awful ugly uniforms, this team may have had a chance. "
