Golf briefs
Aug. 15 Lopez to play in State Farm Classic Nancy Lopez, who has 48 career victories and three major titles as a professional, has committed to play in the State Farm Classic later this month in Springfield. The Hall of Fame golfer has participated in a limited number of events since 2002. She has $5.3 million in career earnings. The tournament will be played Aug. 27 through Sept. 2 at Panther Creek Country Club. Wolf Creek Four-Man Scramble Wolf Creek Golf Club in Cayuga will hold a four-man scramble on Aug. 26. The team handicap is 35 or higher, with only one golfer 5 handicap or lower. Any player that has a 20 handicap or higher will be counted as a 20. All players must verify their handicaps when signing up. No high school players are allowed. Entry fee is $30 per person, with $20 for green fees and $10 for carts. There will be a double shotgun start at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. To sign up, contact the Wolf Creek pro shop at (815) 842-9008. Parent/Grandparent-Child sign up The 12-under division for the Bloomington-Normal Parent-Child Tournament will be held on Aug. 25-26 at The Links at Ireland Grove. There also will be a Grandparent-Child division. Entry fee is $40 and includes both days of greens fees and a prize fund. Only one adult can play per child. Sign up is at The Links. To be eligible, one of the contestants must be a full-time Bloomington-Normal resident or member of a Bloomington-Normal club or season-ticket holder at a public course. Matt Miller ties for fourth Matt Miller of Bloomington shot a 5-under 67 for a 139 total to tie for fourth place in last week’s Illinois Open at The Glen Club in Glenview. Also tying for fourth was Miller’s former Illinois State teammate, Joe Emerich of Palatine. Bloomington Country Club professional Jim Miller tied for 53rd (76-147), while Drew North of El Paso was tied for 71st (81-151).
