Man gets 36 years for robbing Freedom Oil stations
BLOOMINGTON — Thomas Nesby was sentenced to 36 years in prison for his role in a string of armed robberies of Freedom Oil stations in 2005. Nesby, 25, of the 900 block of West Olive Street in Normal, was handed three consecutive terms from Judge Scott Drazewski. Nesby was one of four people accused of robbing Freedom Oil stations in Bloomington and Normal during the fall and winter of 2005. He was convicted of the robberies in April. Drazewski agreed with a request from the prosecution to impose consecutive sentences. Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Workman said the lengthy prison term is necessary to deter others from committing armed robberies in the county. Nesby also was ordered at an Aug. 3 sentencing hearing to pay $1,081 to Freedom Oil for money taken in the three robberies. Three other defendants have been sentenced in connection with the robberies. Christopher May, 25, was given three consecutive sentences totaling 17 years for aggravated robbery and burglary. Calisa Crenshaw, 20, was placed on 48 months of probation and sentenced to 174 days in jail for aggravated robbery. Ronda Peterson, 24, received 30 days in jail and 36 months probation for her part in the robberies. |
