Cedar Rapids routs Chiefs

After scoring the game’s first run, the Peoria Chiefs watched Cedar Rapids fire back with 11 unanswered runs as the Kernels hammered out an 11-1 Midwest League victory at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Cedar Rapids chased Peoria starter Jake Renshaw (12-8) after just 2 1/3 innings. Renshaw gave up five earned runs on seven hits while also giving up two walks. Chiefs relief pitching fared no better as the Kernels roughed up Casey Lambert for five hits and three runs in only 1 2/3 innings. Chris Siegfried gave up three runs and five hits in two innings of work as the Kernels pounded out 17 hits.
Peoria’s lone run came on newcomer Ty Wright’s RBI single in his first at bat in a Chiefs’ uniform.
Despite the loss, Peoria continues to hold a 3½ game over both Kane County and Burlington in the wild card race.
