BLOOMINGTON — The Division Street railroad underpass will remain closed on the Lee Street side of the bridge, at least through the weekend, and possibly longer, according to Bloomington police officials.

The bridge must be inspected to ensure safety, they said.

Authorities blocked off the underpass Thursday following an accident at the site, in which a truck crashed into the cement pillars of the underpass. No one was injured in that incident.

" Division Street where this bridge is located is not a main thoroughfare. Can't you get out of those side streets off of Adelaide and/or W. Seminary to get where you're going? I have a feeling the college students are not being inconvenienced by the closing of this small section by the bridge. "

" I would hardly call Division St. at the underpass a main thouroughfare when it is easily bypassed using Emerson to Allin. "

Why Has It Not Been Inspected Yet? wrote on Aug 19, 2007 6:51 AM:

" With ISU and IWU students back in town this road is a main thoroghfare. Why did the City not get off their backsides and get an inspector out on Friday to do this vital work? Oh I know they were too busy trying to figure out ways to cover those backsides over the big waste of taxpayer funds in downtown Bloomington. Thanks again Tom Hamilton for yet another inept performance and not getting bridge inspectors out to keep a major road open. Hamilton needs to go, we can not afford his pathetic performance any longer. "
