Blood donation has tasty benefit

BLOOMINGTON — Culver’s wants to help the American Red Cross of the Heartland build up its blood supply.

Everyone who gives blood at the Wednesday drive at the Red Cross chapter house, One Westport Court, Bloomington, will receive a free “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” certificate. The certificate entitles blood donors to a free pint of frozen custard from Culver’s restaurant, 901 N. Hershey Road and 1807 S. Market St., both Bloomington.

The blood drive is noon to 5:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Bloomington-Normal Association of Realtors. For an appointment, call (309) 662-0500.

IWU appoints 2 to new posts

BLOOMINGTON — Two members of the Illinois Wesleyan Financial Aid Office have been appointed to new roles. Lynn Nichelson, director of financial aid, was appointed assistant dean of enrollment management. Scott Seibring, director of new student financial aid, was appointed director of financial aid.

Woman announces clerk candidacy

CLINTON — Carlene Blue has announced her Republican candidacy for the DeWitt County circuit clerk in the primary election on Feb. 5.

Kathy Weiss will retire when her term expires on Dec. 1, 2008.

She has 27 years of experience as a legal secretary/paralegal and works for the law firm of DePew & Dehn in Bloomington.

Honor the Chief event is planned

GIBSON CITY — The third annual “Honor the Chief Day”/Orange & Blue Festival will be Saturday (Aug. 25) in downtown Gibson City.

The day will start at 9 a.m. with check-in for the car and motorcycle show (Ford County ABATE), with judging at noon and trophy presentations at 3 p.m. at North Park.

A food court, vendors and activities downtown begin at 4 p.m. with Meet the Chiefs. Other activities include a beer garden from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., a pork chop dinner and music all evening.

Museum fund-raiser — The Prairie Aviation Museum will have its monthly fundraising dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Challenger Learning Center, 2929 E. Empire St., Bloomington. The date was wrong in Monday’s Pantagraph.

Blood drive — The location for an Aug. 28 blood drive, sponsored by the Bloomington Fire Department, will be the American Red Cross chapter house in Bloomington. The location was incorrect in Health Calendar in Monday’s Life section.
