BLOOMINGTON -- A 52-year-old man was in serious condition at local hospital after a single-car rollover crash late Tuesday morning south of Bloomington. | Photo gallery

Firefighters and rescue personnel removed Richard Blary, of Heyworth, from a white four-door sedan, which was on its roof in a yard along McLean County 1750 East Road, just south of U.S. 150. The man was taken to BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, said Chris Hollonbeck, a captain with Bloomington Township Fire Department.

“He was moving on his own inside the car,” Hollonbeck said. “He just couldn’t get out.”

McLean County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Sandage said it appears the man was driving south and just ran off the road, striking and damaging a utility pole.

Blary was cited with failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident, police said.

" I recently started a job in Peoria and driving in that city is paradise compared to BN. The lights are synchronized and people actually go when the light turns green. Less SUVs and churches, too. "

" So you're the guy sitting there twiddling his thumbs when the light turns green. Go already, Grandpa. Veteran's Pkwy lights are so ill timed that you praise your god when you make it through one. "

" I Just wanted to say that I am so glad I moved out of B/N Illinois in June and moved to Arizona. It is nice to see what a great bunch of people live in B/N. I know the guy in this accident and I really did not appreciate most of the comments that were posted with this article. I am glad that nobody has anything better to do than talk about an accident and a person like it doesn't affect people. Thanks for you concern for the person in the accident and his family. "

" Everyone keep all the negative comments to yourself!!!! I'm sure the guy who was in the accident will really appreciate all the whining and moaning about cell phone use. Why don't you use this space to send well wishes to himself and his family? Hope he gets better soon. "

" did it ever occur to you maybe it's a close friend or family member? This site is full of people who just want to go off on others. No one knows the circumstances of the accident, and frankly I agree with Back off. I wish the man a speedy recovery and hope his family finds strength in those around them to get them through this tough time. "

" WOW-I would guess you had a bad expereience with one or both of the "agencies". By the way they are fire districts...not fire agencies! Which would lead me to think your driving abilities may be in question. Take my word for it, the resuce teams do what is needed to make sure the "victim" is removed as safely and quickly possible. They use the most approrpiate means to remove passengers...so if that means removing the top of an auto then they do as instructed. They are trained many times a year on these techniques and they take that training seriously....they don't just remove a car top of the fun of it!!!! Lighten up on the resuce teams people......they do those jobs with LITTLE THANKS and on a VOLUNTEER BASIS. GREAT JOB RESUCE TEAMS!!!!!!! "

" I believe they both handled the article. That area is in Bloomington Townships coverage area but also right near the line with Down's coverage area. And what does it really matter who covered it or what they had to do to the car? Lets see what you'd say if it was you in that car and trapped and injured. You'd want them to do whatever they could to get you out and odds are if it wasn't fast enough you'd probably complain about that too. Give some respect to people who are out there helping people everyday. They help because they want to not because they have to. "

" Bloomington Township or Downs? The article makes reference to both. I guess I'd also have to ask, which one of them flipped the car over so they could cut the top off of it? Both of those agencies seem to love to perform unnecessary actions. "

" My goodness you are bitter!! What is your problem, have you been a focal point on here and received a lot of negative blogs? What's wrong with people expressing their opinion? This is what America is made up of, opinions, and everybody has one or is entitled to one be right or wrong. You need to calm down and ignore the ones you don't like and you move on. If I don't agree with it I ignore it, but I don't get so upset as you did. Do you think people should not be able to express themselves? Gee that would make this boring world even more boring. Information is only what you the reader takes from it, it's your choice to believe it or not. "

" face it cars now days do not weight as much as they did 30 years ago. they rollover and flip more and easier than they did than. SUV's set higher, shorter, narrower, and are top heavey. there are just going to be rollover when there is a crash. most back roads have soft shoulders and after a heavy rain they are worst. tire goes off in the mud and you have a wreck and roll over. thank god for airbags and soft interiors in car today. "

So Get a life and stay away from others! "

" Hey I was involved in a roll over accident about three weeks ago and I only got one lousy pic in the regular paper and not on the website. I wasn't talking on a cell phone when my accident happened neither. I don't see where it states that this person was talking on a cell phone. Accidents happen people, that is why they are called accidents. Luckily the person in this rollover accident is going to be fine and I must say that everyone in mine had minor injuries. Some people aren't as fortunate at times. We should be thankful for the life that God blesses us with and no matter how cautious of a driver you are, accidents will still happen whether or not we want them too. Get a grip on reality people. Have a safe and blessed evening. "

simple rule wrote on Aug 21, 2007 5:28 PM:

" This may or may not have anything to do with today's accident but when driving, before touching your cell phone, pull over and stop. Do not use the phone while the car is moving. This simple rule will prevent thousands of accidents each year. The number of accidents involving cell phones is UNDER-reported currently, as there is no way to prove a cell phone was in use at the time of most accidents. "

" Are you trying to say that the photographer's camera needs more Pixel capabilities? If you are, you don't know too much about cameras, especially digital ones. For a picture to be proper size for the internet, one can use a 2 to 3 MP camera and the photos will come out fine. The quality of the pictures has to do with the website, not the camera. The more MPs you have, the bigger you can blow the picture up without any distortion or pixellation. It does factor into the quality somewhat, but you are giving MP capacity too much credit. "

What's with these people? wrote on Aug 21, 2007 3:30 PM:

" It seems every time you read the paper someone is rolling over! What do you people do to roll over? I have never heard of so many roll overs as I have since moving to B/N. I drive an SUV and I don't drive like their is no tomorrow, I don't yak on the phone, or text message. People are simply not paying attention to what they are doing but it will be blamed on the SUV. The car only does what the driver makes it do no matter what kind of vehicle it is. People in this town drive like they are hell bent to get to hell, and yak on the phone and weave all over. I don't drive Veteran's for this very reason. If the light just barely turns green someone is honking for you to go, what's the rush?? If you had to be somewhere you should of left a little sooner. Once your T-boned by someone not stopping from the opposite way it's too late to back up. Slow down!! "
