Accident kills Tremont pedestrian

MORTON -- An 84-year-old pedestrian died shortly after being hit by a pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon in Morton, said Morton police in a statement.

James Davis, of Tremont, was pronounced dead at 1:43 p.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, the Peoria County coroner’s office said Tuesday evening.

The accident was at 12:49 p.m. Tuesday in front of the Morton Travel Center, 1801 Morton Ave., police said. The pedestrian was hit by a southbound truck driven by Charles Harr, of East Peoria, police said.

The pedestrian was crossing between two businesses on Morton Avenue and was not at an intersection or crosswalk, police said.

The driver was not injured, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by Morton police and the Peoria County coroner’s office.
