Officer facing domestic battery resigns from Gibson City force
GIBSON CITY — Gibson City police Lt. Chris Decker, a former chief of police now charged with domestic battery has resigned, effective Friday, Mayor Dan Dickey said. Members of the City Council voted Tuesday to accept Decker’s resignation and to grant him a severance package totaling $7,174, plus or minus the customary tax withholding and other deductions. The severance package includes three weeks of accrued vacation, five weeks of severance pay, and one week of regular pay. “We wish Mr. Decker the best in his future endeavors,” Dickey said. Decker, 48, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery as a result of an early-morning domestic dispute on Aug. 12, police said. Ford County Sheriff Mark Doran said his officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the home of Chris and Lisa Decker in the 600 block of 11th Street. Court records indicate Decker struck his wife, Lisa, and another family member with his open hand. Sheriff’s police were called because Decker was a Gibson City police officer. Decker has served as lieutenant with the Gibson City Police Department since he stepped down in 2006 as chief. A 20-year law enforcement veteran, Decker was chief of police for five years. |
