Central Catholic: 5 Things to Watch
By Pantagraph staff
The Saints' fortunes hinge largely on the development of the offensive line. Junior Joe Ring and senior Zach Eyre return as starters, and there is good depth with 13 linemen. The key will be finding the right combination.
Senior receiver Javier Safford could be the go-to guy in the passing game. Coach Bobby Moews said Safford has made great strides and has caught the eyes of college recruiters. If he can catch enough passes, he could land a scholarship.
Junior Adam Rebholz takes over at quarterback and has impressed his coach in the preseason. Rebholz has a "prototype" build, Moews said, and is a quick learner. All he lacks is varsity experience.
The defense should be solid, though the secondary will be inexperienced. That is a concern because of the potential for surrendering big plays. The hope is there is enough skill to offset the inexperience, especially early.
Three sure things in life: death, taxes and the Saints being 1-0. They have won 28 straight season openers. An opening win this year would give Moews his 100th victory as Central coach. He has a 99-57 record.
