Normal: 5 Things to Watch

Senior running backs Dan Moore, Joey Anderson and Austin Davis rushed for a combined 1,745 yards and 28 touchdowns last year. Exciting return man Kennedy Freeman provides another threat in the backfield, where Davis totaled 1,162 yards in 2005.

Advice to opposing quarterbacks: Don't throw the ball anywhere near Alex Buck. The NCHS senior defensive back intercepted seven passes last year and picked off eight as a sophomore.

Sophomore Travis Mullen won two state championships in the 100-meter dash and another in the 200 while at Kingsley Junior High. He likely will be the Ironmen's feature back the next two years. For now, he will provide a deep threat at wide receiver.

The NCHS offensive line gets a boost from the return of senior Derek Logue. Logue was a starter last year until suffering a season-ending injury against Champaign Centennial in week 5.

Another deep playoff run could get Coach Hud Venerable to the 125-win mark at NCHS. He begins his 14th season with a 114-36 record. Venerable ranks second in school history behind Dick Tharp's 158 victories from 1966 to 1987.
