In courtMan sentenced for touching girl BLOOMINGTON — A 45-year-old man was sentenced to serve two years of probation and pay fines, fees and court costs for rubbing the body of a sleeping girl in April 2006. Dwight Arnett was initially charged with four counts of attempted criminal sexual abuse, which indicated the girl was less than 13 years old. But he was sentenced on one count of attempted criminal sexual abuse in a plea agreement Thursday. Arnett also was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but that time will not be served as long as he complies with the terms of his probation. Police, Fire, RescuePolice: Man rams woman’s vehicle BLOOMINGTON — A 27-year-old woman told police a fellow partygoer stole her money and rammed a car into hers early Wednesday on the city’s west side. The woman said she and the man, whose real or full name wasn’t known, were going to drive to a store to buy alcohol when they got in her car about 1:35 a.m. along Epsilon Street, said Bloomington police spokesman Duane Moss. The woman said the man grabbed her purse and keys and stole money from the purse, he said. The woman told officers the man left her car, got into a car with another man and drove the second car into the back end of her car, which was blocking the exit of the other car, Moss said. The men then sped off, he said. I-55 blocked — A 57-year-old semitrailer truck driver swerving to avoid another semi spilled his cargo of aluminum rolls, blocking the southbound lanes of Interstate 55. The accident was about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 55 near Broadwell, said state police at Springfield. The driver, Robert C. Hebert, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., was driving north on Interstate 55 in the left lane when a second unidentified semi made a sudden lane change into his path, police said. Hebert swerved to the left to avoid the other semi, and his semi overturned before entering the median. The semi Hebert was driving ended up blocking the southbound lanes of Interstate 55. The road was closed while Hebert was removed. There was no record of medical treatment for Hebert. The Lincoln Rural Fire Department, Illinois Department of Transportation and Logan County sheriff’s police assisted at the scene. |
