Clinton rallies past Argenta-Oreana

Cody Thomas’ 5-yard blast with 3:08 remaining capped a 13-point, fourth-quarter rally as Clinton edged Argenta-Oreana in the non-conference season opener for both teams Friday at Argenta.
Clinton (1-0) trailed 21-12 midway through the final period before quarterback Ross Bruenger hit Colin Duling with a 5-yard toss to pull the Maroons to within 21-19 with 5:03 left to set up Thomas’ winning run. Thomas finished with 79 yards on 18 carries to lead the Clinton running attack.
Bruenger was 15-for-20 for 220 and three touchdowns, also hooking up with Nick Chandler on a 36-yard strike and Jorden Hamblen for a 5-yard score. Hamblen was Bruenger’s prime target with 99 yards on eight catches.
