5 years ago (2002): Zach Jecklin fired a 1-over-par 72 to take second place individually and lead the Bloomington High School golf team to victory in the Macomb Invitational. Wilson and Alex Burge shot a 1-over-par 28 for the first-round lead in the Parent-Child Tournament at Royal Links Golf Course.
15 years ago (1992): Medalist Chad Allen’s 1-under-par 70 was one of five Top 15 finishers for University High as the Pioneers won the Mid-County boys golf invitational at Lacon. Pontiac’s Mike Cushing was second with a 71.
25 years ago (1982): The Illinois Special Olympics Inc. hired Kevin P. O’Brien of Moline to serve as its program director, beginning Sept. 1. O’Brien is a 1967 graduate of Trinity (now Central Catholic) High School and a 1971 graduate of Illinois State University.
50 years ago (1957): Ivan H. Parke of Normal, who was head trainer for Fred W. Hooper’s stable for 14 years and developed such racing stars as Kentucky Derby winner Hoop Jr., has been appointed trainer for Mrs. Elizabeth Graham’s powerful thoroughbred stable at Main Chance Farm.
