Chiefs pitchers combine to throw no-hitter

PEORIA — Peoria Chiefs pitcher James Russell, Chris Siegfried, Matt Maradeo and Jose Ceda combined to throw the first no-hitter in O’Brien Field history Saturday night in a 6-0 win over the Beloit Snappers.
Russell pitched three innings in his Midwest League debut, striking out four batters. He left the game having reached his pitch limit in just his second start as a pro.
Siegfried worked 2 1/3 innings to pick up his second win. Maradeo got the final two outs in the sixth and kept the no-hit bid intact in the seventh.
Ceda went the final two innings and struck out four batters to finish it off.
The Chiefs did combine to issue six walks while hitting three others.
