The Peoria Chiefs managed only six hits and stranded seven base runners in a 2-1 loss to the Beloit Snappers Sunday afternoon at O’Brien field in Peoria.

Beloit jumped out to a 2-0 second inning lead against Chiefs starter Marco Carillo. Carillo (6-6) threw six strong innings, scattering four hits and striking out four, but got no offensive support.

Peoria cut the Snappers lead to 2-1 in the sixth inning when Russ Canzler singled home Marquez Smith.

The Chiefs had a chance to tie the contest in the seventh when Brian LeClerc doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice but was eventually erased by an inning-ending double play.

With the loss, the Chiefs fall to 34-28 in the second half and remain one game behind Cedar Rapids, which also lost Sunday, in the wild card race with eight games left to play.
