A look at the 2007 ISU football schedule
2007 ISU football match-ups Thursday, Drake: A solid non-scholarship program has a new coach in former NFL offensive coordinator Steve Loney. Looking past the Bulldogs could mean a close game, but the Redbirds should roll on opening night. Sept. 8, Murray State: ISU coach Denver Johnson’s old team has fallen on hard times. The Racers were 1-10 last season and improvement isn’t a sure thing. The Redbirds should open 2-0. Sept. 15, At Eastern Illinois: A key nonconference game is a rekindling of an old rivalry that has heated up of late. Eastern will be gunning for redemption after two losses to ISU, including a playoff defeat, last season. Sept. 22, At Missouri: The Redbirds have scared Big 12 teams Iowa State and Kansas State the past two seasons. Putting a fright into elite quarterback Chase Daniel and a Tigers’ team picked to win the Big 12 North will be a tall task. Sept. 29, Northern Iowa: The Gateway season begins with a dandy. Preseason favorite UNI is eager to get back to the playoffs, while ISU will be reminded of a late-season 2006 loss in Cedar Falls that cost the Redbirds a share of the Gateway championship. Oct. 6, At Missouri State: The youthful Bears don’t figure to have much bite. This could be a huge day for the ISU offense. Oct. 13, Indiana State: Homecoming against a team with one victory over the past two seasons? That’s good scheduling. Oct. 20, At Youngstown State: The Penguins waddled to victories over ISU in Normal during the regular season and at Youngstown in the playoffs. The Redbirds will be ready for what should be a key Gateway tilt. Oct. 2, Western Illinois: It’s always an intense battle with a tinge of bad blood when these two in-state teams meet. Nov. 3, At North Dakota State: Thanks a lot, Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers’ departure from the Gateway left ISU scrambling to fill its schedule. A trip to the Fargodome to face the tough-as-nails Bison was not the Redbirds’ first choice. Nov. 10, At Southern Illinois: ISU hopes to be polishing up its playoff resume in this trip to Carbondale. This could be a must win for one or both teams with postseason aspirations. 2006 results Kansas State 24, Illinois State 23 Illinois State 18, Central Arkansas 3 Illinois State 44, Eastern Illinois 30 Illinois State 35, Murray State 14 Illinois State 28, Western Kentucky 27 Illinois State 37, Southern Illinois 10 Illinois State 27, Western Illinois 14 Youngstown State 27, Illinois State 13 Illinois State 38, Missouri State 14 Illinois State 42, Indiana State 20 Northern Iowa 38, Illinois State 27 FCS PLAYOFFS Illinois State 24, Eastern Illinois 13 Youngstown State 28, Illinois State 21 FINAL RECORD: 9-4 Get area high school sports scores and statistics at Varsity Sports. |
