CLINTON -- A Farmer City woman arrested with 14 others in a multi-county cocaine ring was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday.

Stacy Kauth, 38, was charged with conspiring and possession of cocaine and drug trafficking.

Task Force 6, a multi-agency drug enforcement team, started its investigation into a major cocaine trafficking operation last December.

Devon Thomas, who authorities believe to be the head of the network that imported significant amounts of cocaine into Illinois from Indiana, is set to appear in federal court for a plea hearing Sept. 6. Thomas, 37, of Fortville, Ind., is in federal custody.

Five of the 15 defendants indicted by a statewide grand jury in May remain in jail. The others have entered into plea agreements with the state. Assistant Attorney General Matthew Hoppock is handling the prosecution of the drug cases.

" The courts give a 20 year sentence for her role in the sale of drugs but you help kill your chidren and only get 10 years. Where's the justice! "

" I beg to differ. Addicted or not everyone has a choice and in this case the players involved made the wrong ones. I don't care what drug you are hooked on you always have a choice. The choice is get high, or die. These people all chose the easy way out and conitnued to use as oppose to get clean. I am glad these folks got busted and they will reap what they sow. The problem is people who keep trying to convince everyone that drug addiction is a disease rather than a personal choice. It is a choice, and until people like you realize it how can you expect the addicts to be accountable? "

" So you think all the people they were selling drugs too are just going to stop?? They will just find another dealer or one of them will step up and do it themselves... That's how it is with the war on terror... i mean the war on drugs. We need to recognize the futility in the traditional methods of the "war on drugs" and do something different. Such as better education...not DARE crap and treatment. There will always be demand, There will always be supply...PERIOD. "

" This doesn't give FC a bad name, nor does it give any town a bad name when it happens there. Geography has absolutely nothing to do with it; blaming geography simply gives those guilty ones another excuse to use. PEOPLE are to blame for this. These people who did this are 100% responsible for their choices, their actions; regardless of where they live. We should not blame anyone or anything else. Part of the problems of society stem from those making bad choices being unable to own their actions, and the rest of us condoning that. It's black and white - they did it, they chose to do it, and must take responsibility for that. Period. "

" Farmer City - yes, this looks bad and sounds bad, but I will guarantee you that Farmer City is no worse than other small, medium or large cities anymore. I moved from a large city to a very, very small town and, believe me, it is just as bad here. I live in an area MUCH smaller than Farmer City, so don't feel so bad. Also, the 'girl next door' is not immune from drugs, alcohol or any other crime - not anymore. I almost believe that more people do drugs than DON'T do drugs in this country. "

You know what wrote on Aug 27, 2007 10:32 PM:

" Task Force 6 has done an excellent job. Not only have they took out the main drug dealer in these rural areas, but they've continued their investigation and arrested the next lower levels of distributors and dealers. People say the war on drugs is useless, well that's true when people get probation, or two years even after their third conviction. Hopefully this will deter people from peddling this poison in our communities and to our kids!!! Also, people think violent crimes are worse and should have longer sentences, well violent crimes stem from drug use and abuse, if we can eliminate and deter people from using the dangerous drugs, maybe we can prevent some of the violent crimes. "

To I feel sorry... wrote on Aug 27, 2007 9:10 PM:

" Unfortunately once people get addicted they no longer have a choice because they cant or wont break the habit. And that effects me and you because these addicts commit crimes to support their habits because even if they do work the cost of the drugs is way higher than their income in most cases.I could agree with your statement if it werent for the fact that their choices affect our entire society. Not to mention how many lives drugs ruin everyday. "

I feel sorry for them wrote on Aug 27, 2007 4:56 PM:

" Not that doing cocaine or selling it is good, but people have choices about whether or not to do drugs, and I don't think the choice to do so should be illegal. 20 years is a lot, and imagine how you'd feel about their sentences if you were their mom or brother. "
