Daily Digest for August 28, 2007: High water delays LST 324 landing HENRY — High water on the Illinois River has delayed the arrival of the LST 325 in Henry. Tours scheduled for Thursday and Friday (Aug. 30-31) will be rescheduled. The LST is at the riverfront in downtown Peoria and open for tours. The ship may close Wednesday to give the crew a day off and reopen on Thursday until the ship is cleared by the U.S. Coast Guard to travel to Henry. Labor Day fest planned Saturday ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Labor Day celebration will take place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. A pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church will start the day’s events. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed from the town park. A pork chop and rib-eye sandwich meal will be served from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Pies will be sold as part of the Legion’s annual cake walk. A disc jockey will provide music from 7 to 10 p.m. SETTING IT RIGHT Opinion Budget cuts — Gov. Rod Blagojevich cut about $463 million in spending on other projects to devote to his health plan. Sunday’s Pantagraph contained an incorrect figure. Sports CCHS golf — Jessica Koonce’s name was inadvertently omitted from the Central Catholic girls’ golf roster in Sunday’s Pantagraph. She is a sophomore. |
