Drunken man arrested after fight

NORMAL — A 21-year-old nearly naked man was arrested early Sunday after he struck an 18-year-old man, threatened people with a knife and ran from officers, police said.

The man, who was wearing only boxer shorts and black shoes, was intoxicated, police said. He told officers he had been at a “Jello wrestling” event shortly before the confrontation about 1:05 a.m. in the 200 block of West Willow Street, police said.

He declined to say anything else to officers at that time, police said.

Officers were talking to people who claimed the 21-year-old attacked and threatened them, and then the officers spotted the 21-year-old nearby, told him to stop and chased him as he fled.

He was caught by Illinois State University police a short distance from where Normal officers first spotted him, police said.

Beating — A 24-year-old man told police he was beaten by two other men at a party early Sunday on Willow Street, police said.

The man told officers he was at a party about 2:10 a.m. in the 500 block of West Willow Street when two men started insulting him. The 24-year-old replied by insulting the other two men, and they struck him, police said.

The 24-year-old received stitches near his left eye. Police didn’t find the attackers.

Fire — Flames burned contents of a living room but were extinguished within 20 minutes late Sunday night in a south Normal home, a fire official said.

A firefighter twisted his knee, but there were no other injuries in the fire about 11:55 p.m. in the 900 block of West Division Street. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Stolen car — Someone stole another person’s car Sunday morning on the Bloomington’s near west side, police said.

The 2002 Oldsmobile Alero was taken between 4 and 10 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Chestnut Street, police said.

RV vandalized — A about $650 worth of damage was done sometime between July 4 and Friday to a Keystone Cougar recreational vehicle while it was parked in a storage area at Palm Court in the Oakwoods Subdivision, Bloomington Police said.

Vehicle burglary — A wallet, containing about $550 cash and various forms of identification was taken over the weekend from an unlocked from a pickup truck in 400 block of North School Street, police said.

Vehicle burglary — A stereo and about 50 compact discs were taken sometime between 6 p.m. Thursday and 11:25 a.m. Friday from a car parked close to the intersection of Ropp Road and Raab Road on Normal’s northwest edge, McLean County sheriff’s police said. The passenger side window also was broken, police said.
