McLean Co. Circuit Clerk won't seek new term
BLOOMINGTON — McLean County Circuit Clerk Sandra Parker has decided not to seek re-election after nearly 20 years in the position. Parker, a Republican, will complete her term, which expires Nov. 30, 2008. “She’s been an outstanding circuit clerk for McLean County,” said GOP Chairman John Parrott. “She’s been very dedicated and has always done an outstanding job. She’s a top-notch professional who is highly respected throughout McLean County.” Parker sent out a statement with the announcement but refused further comment. “She’s done an incredible amount to automate the system,” said Democrat Tari Renner, chairman of the McLean County Board’s Justice Committee, which oversees the circuit clerk’s office. Renner noted the county has changed tremendously during Parker’s tenure, going from a community of about 100,000 to one of more than 165,000. Parker was appointed to the position in 1989 to replace Sharon Siron and had worked in the office for 10 years prior. “When the community becomes more diverse and larger, it has an effect on the circuit clerk’s office,” Renner said. “There are more filings, more litigation, more divorces. She’s handled it without any major bumps, bringing the office not only into the 20th century but the 21st.” The office is responsible for handling records of the court, collecting and distributing fines and fees, and reporting statistical data to various law enforcement and state government bodies. The circuit clerk’s position is one of several facing an earlier-than-usual primary this year. “With the early election on Feb. 5, people have had to show early on if they are not seeking re-election,” said Parrott. Nominating petitions are available at the County Clerk’s office in the Government Center, 115 E. Washington St., and can be circulated immediately. Completed petitions must be filed between Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at the County Clerk’s office. Those who have picked up petitions for re-election include Coroner Beth Kimmerling, Auditor Jackie Dozier, Recorder Lee Newcom and State’s Attorney Bill Yoder. Parker also picked up a petition early in the process. Several County Board seats also are up for re-election. Incumbents who have picked up nominating petitions are Ann Harding, District 4; Terry Baggett, District 9; Walt Clark, District 5; Diane Bostic, District 3; John Butler, District 7; Bob Nuckolls, District 10; Stan Hoselton, District 1; Paul Segobiano, District 8; and George Gordon, District 6. In addition, Michael Brown picked up a petition for District 2, Betty Kinser for District 5 and Guadalope Diaz for District 9. |
