STREATOR -- Families of Central Illinois National Guard members serving in Iraq have gotten some good news. About 170 soldiers from the 1744th Transportation Co., Streator, are expected home in mid-September from their year-long deployment in Iraq, said Guard spokesman Stacey Rieger.

Rieger said the exact return date isn’t clear, since there are often delays in the process. The unit is expected to first fly to Kuwait and then to Indiana before returning to Streator.

Family members are planning a welcome home celebration when the unit returns to Illinois.

In addition, about 75 members of the 33rd Military Police Battalion of Bloomington are expected to return from Iraq in mid-to-late September, Rieger said.
