ISU student government to fight dress code
NORMAL -- Illinois State University students are fighting a dress code instituted this week by the marketing department.
The Student Government Association claims a policy requiring students to wear business-casual attire to marketing classes violates the Bill of Rights afforded by its Constitution.
Students have “the right to be free from any mandatory dress code,” according to Article 1, Section 1, Letter J of the SGA’s Constitution.
The marketing department’s dress policy isn’t entirely new. Certain marketing courses have required business-casual attire since 2003.
The policy was expanded to cover the entire department this week to promote professional conduct and prepare students for life after college.
