Pontiac educator finalist for Illinois Teacher of the Year
PONTIAC — A Pontiac Township High School teacher was recognized Wednesday as one of the top teachers in the state. Paul Ritter, a science teacher, is one of eight finalists for the title of 2007-08 Illinois Teacher of the Year. The finalists, representing schools across the state, are selected from nominees through The Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel educator recognition program. “This group of outstanding educators exemplifies the dedication and commitment of Illinois teachers,” said Christopher Koch, state superintendent of education. “Each and every day they go above and beyond to help Illinois students become successful learners.” The eight finalists, from Peoria, Pontiac, Naperville, New Douglas, Hanover Park, Loves Park, Lincolnshire and Freeburg, were chosen from nearly 170 nominations. Nominees were chosen based on personal background information, the nominators’ recommendation, and letters of recommendation. They must also answer questions focusing on student success, collaboration, continuous learning, and leadership. The 2007-08 Illinois Teacher of the Year will be announced on Oct. 13. |
