Seniors, disabled eligible for energy assistance in September
By Pantagraph staff
BLOOOMINGTON -- Seniors and people with disabilities may start making appointments to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which begins Tuesday in McLean and Livingston counties.
September will be reserved for those two classes of residents. Residents who are disconnected from service or have a shut-off notice within the next seven days may apply in October. Applications will be accepted from everyone in November. No appointments can be made until Tuesday.
Cathy Grafton, director of community services at Mid Central Community Action, 1301 W. Washington St., said the agency has more than $2 million available to help residents in the two counties.
The program will run about nine months and offers a one-time payment toward energy bills to those meeting eligibility requirements. Gross income for 30 days must be at or under $1,276 for a one-person household; $1,711 for two people; $2,146 for three; and $2,581 for four.
When applying, residents must bring proof of Social Security numbers for all members of the household; a current heat and light bill with the name and account number; proof of gross household income for the previous 30 days; a rent receipt if the landlord pays utilities; and a medical eligibility card, if applicable.
Call (309) 829-0691 to make an appointment in McLean County or (815) 844-3201 in Livingston County.
McLean County residents will apply at a different location this year because Mid Central Community Action has moved from its office on Grove Street.
