Marriage comes before playoffs for Harvey
BLOOMINGTON -- Dusty Burk isn’t about to question the judgment of Bloomington Extreme teammate Rocky Harvey. “He’s making the right decision,” Burk said with a knowing chuckle. Burk, the Extreme’s quarterback who missed a game last season while getting married, knows Harvey has no choice but to skip Bloomington’s 7:05 p.m. United Indoor Football Eastern Conference playoff game Saturday against Rock River at the MetroCentre in Rockford. Harvey is getting married Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind. “I know what his intention was,” said Burk. “He thought there would be an off week between the regular season and the playoffs. That’s why he picked this weekend. But the league changed what they were doing a little bit. “We wish him the best. He’s a great guy. We’re happy for him.” Bloomington wide receiver Glenn Johnson and defensive lineman Rachman Crable are in Harvey’s wedding party. Both, however, are expected to play because team physician Anthony Dustman will fly the pair to Rockford after the wedding. The Extreme’s No. 2 rusher behind Burk, Harvey has rushed for 302 yards and six touchdowns. “(Carlos) Lattimore will take Rocky’s place. He’s played very well the last couple weeks,” Bloomington coach Ted Schmitz said. “And Eric Powell will take Lattimore’s spot at fullback. I think we’ll have a very good two-back system still. They are both good blockers, runners and receivers.” Burk improving Battling back pain, Burk did not practice Wednesday but expects to play Saturday. With a playoff berth clinched, Burk sat out the Extreme’s 48-31 victory over Evansville last week. “I wouldn’t have been able to play last week. The rest will do me good,” Burk said. “Every day it’s getting better and better, and hopefully I’ll be ready to go this weekend. “I’ve been overcompensating for the ab pull I had. It’s been developing, and it’s reared its ugly head now.” “Back spasms are very common for quarterbacks. You take a lot of hits from big defensive ends,” said Schmitz. “Last week we were really smart to hold him out, and it was good for Steve (Lafalce) to get a chance. We feel like he can play for us if we need him to.” Bloomington kicker Peter Christofilakos is expected to return to duty after resting a groin injury last week. |
