Bloomington PrairieThunder forward Mike Zbriger, who tied for first among United Hockey League rookies with 29 goals, was named Monday to the league’s all-rookie team.

Zbriger ranked third among first-year players in points scored with 57 (29 goals, 28 assists) in 77 games, with 38 of those coming in 44 games with the Thunder.

The 25-year-old Montreal native came to the PrairieThunder in a trade with Flint on Jan. 3 after starting the season in Chicago. His combined season-point total of 57 was the highest among PrairieThunder players and tied for 25th overall in the UHL.

“Mike deserves to be on the team,” PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth said. “It’s important for rookies to contribute in this league and Mike came aboard and did that for us.”

Zbriger was joined on the all-rookie team by goaltender Ryan Nie of Kalamazoo; defenseman Luke Fritshaw of Rockford; and the Quad City trio of defenseman Dale Lupul and forwards Brett Pilkington and Justin Chwedoruk.
